People have asked us how we came up with the name Riley! Lots of people picks their baby's name long before meeting them. Once we found out we were having a girl, I just loved thinking of my baby girl. In fact, that was her name for a long time! Instead of rushing to pick a name, I was enjoying that we were having a girl! Why rush these things? So we didn't! A few weeks before her birth, we did have a top ten list of names!
The night before c-section Wednesday, it hit me that we didn't have a name yet! So one day one of her life, we called her Cameron (one of our top two choices). That seemed to fit just fine. On day two, Ben called her Taylor. I looked at him and said that name did not fit at all for our baby girl! But we weren't super thrilled with Cameron so we were back to square one with her name just being baby girl (to the great annoyance of the birth certificate lady)! Riley had been on our top ten list but not in our top two. Mom showed up at the hospital and asked why Riley dropped out of the runnings. Ben and I looked at each other and both said "Riley", she could be a Riley! And so she was! We decided this the last morning about 2 hours before our checkout. The birth certificate lady was not going to let us leave until we picked out a name! They are so picky about names at the hospital! :)
Fastforward to a week ago, Ben's aunt Betty called to congratulate us. She asked how we came up with the name Riley. Ben told her a brief story and then she surprised us all and said that Riley is a family name!!! WHAT??? Ben's dad's uncle was named Pleasant Riley Solomon! I am still in shock. So I guess I could erase this whole story about how we came up with the name Riley and just say it was a family name when people ask!
