Rice Cereal, Part 2!

After our first rice cereal post, I got several comments asking if I even used a spoon??? Yes, I have been using a spoon the entire time! Here is a quick update on how Riley Baby is doing with rice cereal.

1. She and I now understand that in order for rice cereal to be swallowed, the spoon must go above her tongue! This sounds so silly but for the first few days, I didn't realize her tongue was going crazy and most of the spoonfuls went underneath her tongue!

2. It is not a race to finish! For some reason, I was speeding through feedings and she was not able to keep up. Yes, this was not the brightest idea on the planet but I wasn't thinking it through. I finally realized that I need to wait for her to show me she is ready by opening her mouth and sticking her tongue out. Yes, feedings take about 5 minutes longer but it is well worth it!

3. I have to hold back Riley's head! Riley is all about helping me out with these feedings. Those pesky little hands are into the rice cereal and holding onto the spoon every chance they get! Her head also tries to help out by leaning into the spoonful (which consequently does NOT help at all). So I have resorted to holding her head back while the other hand spoons the cereal in. This looks quite amusing but is the only system that has worked. I'm hoping that in a few days (or months or years), she will realize she is not helping and then I won't have to hold her head. But for the time being, I am sticking with it!

The girls hanging out on the wood floor. Part of me is glad that we got wood floor (instead of carpet) because spit-up just goes splat and I can hear it. The other part of me sees the constant dirt on the ground and is disgusted!

Big smiles after her feeding today. Does it get any better than this? She makes me want to be a better woman with those adoring looks of hers!

We have so much to be thankful for!
