Oh how to begin this wonderful tale...
Monday morning, 9/24 - 9am - I have my OB appointment to listen to baby boy's heartbeat. I ask my doctor what would need to happen for me to need to go into the hospital early. FYI, I had a c-section with Riley and had a scheduled c-section with this one on 10/18. She said that I would need to be in serious labor (no thank you) or my water would need to break. She said the odds of that happening are very slim...
Thursday evening, 9/27 at 8pm - I decide to make some chocolate chip cookies and drink some milk. Yum! Ben informs me that he is exhausted (traveled earlier in the week) and was ready to go to bed early!
Thursday evening at 8:30pm - While laying on the couch, out of nowhere I lose all control of my bladder and run to the bathroom. I call my sis and tell her about it (I may have been a little hysterical at this point) and she informs me that MY WATER HAS BROKEN! Ben leaves the bathroom and comes back fully dressed to go to the hospital. I call my OB and wait for her to call me back. At this point, I am exactly 36 weeks along. Let me pause to ask you, who out there actually has things prepared for the baby at the 36 week point? I was counting on those 3 extra weeks, people. At this point our nursery has only a crib in there... with a pink polka dot sheet!
Thursday evening at 9:30pm - My parents arrive at our house to pick up Riley and we zoom over to the hospital. I packed a bag (at my sister's insistence) and all it contained was one shirt and one set of pajama pants plus some toiletries. Who can think when you are under pressure anyway? I guess that is why they tell you to pack you bag BEFORE you go into labor. Noted for next time...
Thursday evening at 11:00pm - The nurse informs us my water did in fact break and we are going to have a baby! Ben and I look at each other and are at a loss for words. Up until this point, he honestly thought I just went to the bathroom all over myself and that we would be heading home shortly.
Friday morning at 6:00am - Let the c-section begin (which went so much better than my first one).
Friday morning at 6:14am - We welcomed our little boy into the world. He weighed 6 lbs 5 oz and was 18 3/4 inches long. Side note: I delivered Riley at 39 weeks and she weighed 6 lbs 1 oz and was 19 inches long. I was in shock this baby was so large compared to Riley and also that he had no problems breathing or swallowing or feeding. We have so much to be thankful for!
Fast forward to Monday morning - We finalize his name just before we are discharged from the hospital and decide on Caden Gray Solomon! We will call him either Caden or Cade.
Monday afternoon at 1:00pm - We arrive home with Riley and Cade. I walk in to find that my house has been completely cleaned and that the nursery is completely put together. Our community group from church as well as Ben's mom and sis (along with Ben's instructing) cleaned, moved furniture, sorted and washed baby clothes, and bought diapers for us. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. Tears streamed down my face. I was so thankful and felt so loved that people would do this for our family.
All in all, I am still a little shocked when I look at the calendar and realize that I should still be pregnant right now. God worked out all the little details and it was perfect!

What a wonderful story! No days of worrying how terrible the hospital time and birth would be, since you OBVIOUSLY had plenty of time for worrying next week. He is a beauty, and Riley looks so sweet with him. Sending gratitude for such grace, and for the loving gifts from your community group.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Gavin was a healthy 6 pounds 9 ounces at 36 weeks. I can't imagine how big he would have been further along. So happy for you!
