This past year Ben got involved in Young Life at our local junior high (actually called Wyld Life) so he could connect with kids since he stopped teaching 2 years ago. I also tried to attend bible studies and events so we could be serving in the same place. Sooooo, 2 weeks ago we both left for camp outside of Austin with 150 kids for 5 days! This was my first time away from Riley for more than 12 hours.
Ben and I had an amazing time at camp. We really were able to see God work in the camper's lives. Plus we had time to reconnect in the morning sipping coffee on a deck overlooking the beautiful hill country. We felt very blessed. I had a great time being my "old" self and not a mom. I needed that time away to rejuvenate. I love being a mom to Riley but was thankful for the break. Ben even said that he was reminded of how I was when we met in college!
Back in Dallas, Lolly, Pops, and Dala were on Riley duty and boy did they do a great job! I typed up one page of notes for my mom. Her eyes may have bulged a little when I handed it to her. I did mention that it was fine to deviate from Riley's schedule but the consequence of that was that Riley may be fussy for the remainder of the day! Lolly did a great job taking care of Riley. They had all sorts of fun and even took a day trip to Fort Worth to see Whitney and LA and go swimming. By the end of the 5 days, my mom was "living" off the schedule I typed up for her! My mom also commented that Riley has chewed on everything in their house including upholstered items. :) The video monitor was acting funny so Mom relied on the Izzy monitor (i.e. if Riley was making noise, Izzy would come and put her paw on my mom's shoulder to wake her up). Izzy is just so sweet and loving to Riley!
I am so very thankful my parents and brother put their life on hold so I could go to camp. Riley was a trooper and rolled with all the changes like a champ. She had no problems with naps, night time sleep in a pack n play and eating. I am thankful for a flexible baby!
Here are pictures from Riley's vacation with Lolly and Pops. This is a bib from when my brother was a baby!
The after lunch shot.
Lolly got her this super cute swimsuit with a built-in swim diaper. That's definitely the way to go!
Whitney, Livy Anne, Lolly, and Riley at the pool. Riley needs constant toys in her mouth or she will drink the pool water. I love this float because you only blow up the bottom of it.
Pops and Izzy spending some quality time together.
Our one picture from camp. Ben is blobbing me! If you look closely, Ben is looking at the camera and smiling.
Weary?
