Happy 2/3 Birthday!

Today Riley turned 8 months old. Time has flown by with her. I reminisced over videos of her as a newborn and they feel like a lifetime ago. Ohh, the good ol' days.  Yes, my sister has already called me out that I am being a little dramatic!

Most of the time, moms say that when they walk into the room their baby's eyes light up. For Riley, it is a little different. If I walk into the room and am wearing SHOES, her eyes light up.  She will chew on basically anything (I think she has some goat DNA) but she especially loves shoes.  I feel like she starts by looking at my face and then her eyes slowly travel down to the shoes and then she is in motion. The girl knows what she wants.

Riley already has such a personality. She is laid back in the food department and seems to like most everything I give her. In the crawling department, she is getting fast but she still uses her elbows instead of her hands, maybe she's getting ready for a career in the Army. Riley loves to smile at people and is quite a happy baby. We have even taken her out to some restaurants for dinner and she has done just fine (as long as it is before her 7pm bedtime)!  Currently her favorite pastime is to pull herself to a standing position. She uses anything you can think of, the exersaucer, coffee table, a kitchen chair, absolutely anything. The only problem with this is that she does NOT have the dismount down pat yet. She has a few spills each day with minimal tears but then 5 minutes later, she is back to standing up. Someone famous said "It's not how many times you get knocked down, it's how many times you get up." This is Riley's favorite quote.

Today, I sat down to play the piano for a few minutes. Normally Riley stays in the same room with me and manages to find whatever forbidden objects she can (Ben's newest nickname for her is "terror"). This morning, she ventured off by herself and I literally could NOT find her! I was calling out her name fully expecting her to say "here"! She ended up being in our bedroom playing with toys (and by toys, I mean the door stop spring, she loves that thing!). She is getting so independent!!

We weighed her yesterday and she is right at 18lbs! For most people, tripling your weight in 8 months is not a good thing, but we'll give her a free pass.

Things Riley enjoys:
- anything related to food
- bathtime once we taught her how to splash
- being outside. We got the coolest gadget and it is a lifesaver when we are outside with the neighbors. It is called the go pod and it is a portable exersaucer that you can put toys on. I will wear this thing out this summer.
- tickle time especially on her thighs. Her laugh is precious!
- when she is ready to get up after naps, I find her standing in her crib with the biggest smile on her face!

Things she does not enjoy:
- the drying off, getting dressed, and brushing hair that occurs after bath time. Before we start bath time, we already have the bottle ready to give her. One night, she was getting fussy and crying while I was getting her dressed after bath. So Ben promptly got the bottle and while she is still on the changing table proceeds to feed her the bottle! I was aghast. He gave me a look that said "Lauren, you know she is crying because she wants the bottle." Yes Ben she is crying because of that, but have you ever heard of actually waiting until she is dressed to feed her the bottle. Guys!
- waking her up from naps. She inherited this one from me. I used to be in the grumpiest mood in the mornings until finally I had to shake myself out of it (but that wasn't until late elementary school)!
- when she falls from a standing position and manages to hit her head, but who would like that??

I am so thankful for sweet Riley. She is a miracle!

Playing after her nap and her thigh is stuck!

Standing in her crib. Yes, we have already lowered her mattress!
Throwing the deuce. She is serious about PEACE!
 Playing on the fireplace.
Perching precariously. Notice how she in on her tip toes!
Seeing if we accidentally left any food on the plates...
Mom, please help me. I can't figure out how to get down!
