Craft Time!

As always, there is a story behind these quilts and it began 5 years ago. On a whim, my mom planned a surprise family trip for my dad's 60th birthday. On the trip we stopped in a cute town called Granbury and walked around their town square. In a storefront I saw 4 little quilts, one for each season. They caught my eye, so I walked in the store and bought the $20 book with the pattern (yes, that is quite expensive for an impulse buy for me). Zac (my brother-in-law) gave me a look that said "you made us wait out here for 15 minutes so you could buy a quilting book, even though you have never quilted before in your life?" So in the middle of the town square I proclaimed to all who could hear "I will now become a quilter!!!"

My mom volunteered her 1970 Sears Kenmore sewing machine that was stored up in the attic. Ben's mom came in town and taught me how to sew. And poof! I had all the gear to become a quilter... except it isn't really that simple! There is a lot of emotional and mental energy that comes with gearing up to make a quilt! :) But now, after 5 years and much nagging encouraging from my husband, I'm proud to say...
I have finished them!!!

In addition to making these quilts, I have also ventured out and made all the curtains for our house, pillows for our couches, recovered lampshades, made a mosaic for our living room, and just about anything else I can think of. I love being crafty and Ben loves making things! In fact, Ben's thinks so highly of my abilities that when we walk in a craft store he insists that I can make this trinket, so of course we don't need to buy it. I love that he believes in me because sometimes I don't! Isn't that what spouses are for?? :)

A picture of the mosaic that hangs in our living room (thanks to Kelli and Ben for their help with this)! We spent many an hour breaking dollar store ceramic plates, gluing on pieces, and then grouting!!!

And if you made it all the way to the end of this post, I will treat you with a picture of my sweet girl.We spend lots of time in this jumper looking out the window except maybe she wore herself out. What do you think?
