Cauliflower and Apples

We are in the process of trying out fruits and veggies and I never quite know what kind of reaction I am going to get from Riley girl! So far she is NOT a fan of squash (even the second time I have introduced it). She likes carrots, sweet potatoes, corn, bananas, pears, and apples. I have two funny stories to share:

1) I have been making Riley's baby food in a baby cooker, so I have been methodically going through the produce section at my grocery store for veggies. When I ran across cauliflower, I thought "Why not?" I set it to steam and then we went on a walk. When we came back, our entire house smelled like gas (Ben has made me very familiar with this smell)!!! It was terrible. Ben insisted on opening every window in our house and dousing the kitchen with Oust. The first time Riley tries cauliflower...I give it to her and as the cauliflower sits on her tongue, she begins to bawl! Eyes squeezed shut, tears flowing, mouth open with cauliflower in it. I burst into laughter. After 20 seconds of crying, she reluctantly swallows it. The same thing happened with the second bite! At this point, I ran to get the video camera. Third bite, nada. She apparently overcame her dislike of cauliflower and consumed normally...All that to say, I don't think I will be making more pureed cauliflower anytime soon!

2) I am a fan of green apples. I have always liked them a little better than red apples. So when it came time to buy apples for Riley I went with green! On our apples day, I fed them to her and after every other bite she would do a weird eye blink but only with one eye! It looked like she was telling me "wow mom these are tart apples"! So I decided to taste the pureed apples and they were TART! Mental note - buy red apples from now on for Riley or expect a weird eye blink!! :) I was able to get this on video but she only did it one time!
